September 17th, the Day of the 2nd Infantry Battalion (2nd IBn) within the 1st Infantry Brigade (1st IBde) was marked with a military ceremony in the barracks “Jane Sandanski” in Shtip.
The ceremony was attended by the Commander of the 1st Infantry Brigade, Brigadier General Sashko Lafchiski, accompanied by personnel from the Command and the Brigade’s Headquarters, Commanders of the subordinate units, mayors in the area of responsibility, heads of public institutions, former members of the unit as well as pupils from elementary schools in Shtip.
In front of the formation of the unit and the guests present at the ceremony, a suitable address was given by the Deputy Commander of the 2nd IBn, Lieutenant Colonel Mitko Popov, who in his speech referred to the historical path of the 14th MYPLSB (14th Macedonian Youth People’s Liberation Strike Brigade) “Dimitar Vlahov”, formed in 1944 in the village of Mitrashinci, whose traditions are continued by this battalion. The strength of this unit comes from the courage and honesty of the members who serve the Army professionally and with dignity under the motto HONOR AND STRENGTH. Among other things, he emphasized: “Our 2nd IBn unit, as the basis for the formation of the LIBG (light infantry battalion group), will continue towards new achievements.”
In his speech, the Commander of the 1st IBde, Brigadier General Sashko Lafchiski, emphasized: “I congratulate you on the Day of the 2nd IBn and I thank you immensely for everything this unit has achieved in the past period in the performance of tasks and missions outside the country together with other partners and members of NATO, with the hope that this will continue in the upcoming period”.
On the occasion of the Day of the unit, fresh flowers were laid on the “Macedonia” memorial in the barracks “Jane Sandanski” Shtip, in honour of the members of the 2nd IBn who lost their lives in the conflict in 2001.
As part of the celebration of the Day of the Unit, the reconnaissance platoon from the command company was selected as the best platoon for the past year. Officers, non-commissioned officers and professional soldiers were awarded and praised, and certificates of appreciation were awarded to the institutions and associations with which the unit has excellent cooperation in the performance of their obligations and tasks.
The celebration was enriched with the musical performance by the female guitar quartet “The Queens” from the Vinica House of Culture and the “City Wind Orchestra” from Shtip.
The end of the ceremony was marked by a ceremonial parade of the members of the 2nd IBn, and the guests present had the opportunity to explore the equipment and resources available to the unit.
