A military ceremony and handing over of the military flag was conducted in the barracks “Chojlija”, on the occasion of handover-takeover of duty Commander of the Engineers Battalion (EngBn) within the 1st Infantry Brigade (1st IBde) in the Operations Command.
Major Laste Gjorgiev, who until know performed the duty Chief of Staff in the Engineers Battalion, received the duty Commander of the Engineers Battalion from Lieutenant Colonel Ilcho Zakovski.
During the ceremony, the Commander of the 1st Infantry Brigade, Brigadier General Sashko Lafchiski, among the other things, said, “In order to stand as a leader of a unit like this, with members who are highly motivated, professional, trained and competent, it takes a commander who possesses exceptional leadership skills and abilities, while the members of the EngBn are masters of their profession and enjoy trust wherever they appear, when they are at home, when they deal with the consequences of natural disasters, as well as when they are abroad participating in international missions and exercises. Major Laste Gjorgiev takes over the battalion in an exceptionally important period of a final restructuring of the unit, in order to adequately respond to the challenges we have as a NATO member”. Brigadier General Lafchiski congratulated the outgoing and the incoming commander.
The outgoing commander, Lieutenant Colonel Ilcho Zakovski, thanked the staff of the unit for their support during his duty, while the incoming commander emphasized that he will command the unit very conscientiously and responsibly and he expressed his appreciation for the trust they give him with this duty.
The outgoing commander was presented with a plaque with the logo of the unit by the members of the battalion.
Today’s ceremony was attended by the Chiefs of Sections of the 1st Infantry Brigade Command, commanders of the units within the 1st Infantry Brigade, commanders of units within the Operations Command, former commanders of the unit and other guests.
