Today, 2nd June 2014, at the airport “Alexander the Great “, the ARM declared unit which is participating in the exercise “Quick Lion” until 14th July in Belgium, intended to assess the operational capability of the EU battle group (EUBG 2014-2), was officially sent off. The ARM members’ send-off to Belgium was attended by the ARM Chief of General Staff, Lieutenant General Goranco Koteski.
General Koteski, addressing the overall composition of the unit remarked that this was a great success for the ARM and the Republic of Macedonia, stressing that participating in the exercise, “Quick Lion” as part of the EUBG 2014-2 we are sending a clear signal of support for the EU defense policy. He noted that the purpose of the exercise is to check the training and interoperability of the units which comprise this battle group, and which will be potentially engaged in peace operations that will performed across Europe. The ARM Chief of General Staff did not hide his expectations that the unit as a whole will meet the required standards and criteria set out in this exercise.
The declared ARM unit is a part of the EU battle group which is led by the armed forces of the Kingdom of Belgium, comprising also of the armies of the Netherlands, Luxembourg, Spain and Germany. Today the unit departed for Belgium on a special flight on an aircraft organized by the Armed Forces of the Kingdom of Belgium.
