Today, November 26, “the 17th Army Cross-Country Running Championship” was held at the Sports Center “Hipodrom”, organized by the Military Sports Council.
At the opening of this sports event, the State Secretary in the Ministry of Defense, Elizabeta Chupovska Ristova, said that this competition is a symbol of discipline, endurance, and team spirit in the Army. “Through these sports activities, we strengthen the physical readiness of the Macedonian Army,” she said.
This is an open traditional sports event, therefore, excellent athletes from the athletics clubs take part, in addition to the members of the Army.
In the women’s category, on the 4,800-meter track, the winner of this year’s cross-country race was Master Sergeant Marija Pelikon. The second place went to Captain Dijana Lapevska and third place was won by Captain Hristina Gizdovska. In the men’s category, on the 8,000-meter track, the first place was won by the professional soldier Milosh Ranchikj, the second place went to Captain Zhan Tosev and third place was taken by the professional soldier Trajche Ilievski.
In the team rankings for women, the best were the members of the Logistics Base, the second place was won by the Special Forces Battalion and the third place went to the 1st Infantry Brigade. In the men’s team rankings, the first place was taken by the Honor Guard Battalion, the second place went to the Training and Doctrine Command, and the third place was won by the Special Forces Battalion.
Athletics is one of the most important sports in our Army and this is proven by the results achieved by the members of the Army in the national and international athletics competitions.
The Army Cross-Country Running Championship is a traditional sports event. The championship, which for the fifth year in a row is held at the SRC “Hipodrom” due to the excellent conditions, has been organized and conducted since 2008 at several locations in the country.
