The Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Army, Major General Azim Nuredin led the delegation of the Army of the Republic of North Macedonia at the change of NATO KFOR command ceremony in Kosovo.
Major General Angelo Michele Ristuccia handed over the post of KFOR Commander to the Turkish Major General Özkan Ulutaş, during a ceremony held at the Headquarters of KFOR mission in Prishtina. This also meant that the Italian armed forces handed over the responsibilities for the KFOR mission to the members of the Turkish armed forces.
General Nuredin also met with the members of the Macedonian contingent deployed to the KFOR mission at the Regional Command West Headquarters in Pec/Peja.
During the meeting with the Commander of the Regional Command West Headquarters, which is under the command of the Italian armed forces, Colonel Gabriele Vacca, the activities and duties of our contingent deployed at the mission were discussed.
The Army of the Republic of North Macedonia began its participation in the KFOR mission in November 2020, deploying staff officers and a security platoon, forming a contingent of 44 members of the Army. In April 2021 our contribution to the NATO-led KFOR mission was enhanced with another platoon, increasing the number of our peacekeepers up to 65.
The members of our security platoons at the KFOR Regional West Command carry out their duties and tasks together with the members of the Italian Army; commanding army for this region, and the members of the armies of Austria, Croatia, Moldova, Poland, Slovenia, Switzerland and Turkey.
