The Chief of the General Staff, Lieutenant General Vasko Gjurchinovski, participated in the sessions of the second annual meeting of the NATO Military Committee (MC) at the NATO Headquarters in Brussels, and held three bilateral meetings.
The Allied Chiefs of Defence, according to the agenda of this year’s second session of the МC, held several sessions discussing current topics of strategic importance. They focused on the implementation of the goals set in the Alliance defence plans for transformation and operationalization in order to be fully prepared to deal with all current and future threats.
General Gjurchinovski held bilateral meetings at NATO the Headquarters with the Commander of the US European Command and Supreme Allied Commander Europe, General Christopher Cavoli, with the Chief of Defence of the Armed Forces of Italy, Admiral Giuseppe Cavo Dragone, and the Chief of Defence of the Armed Forces of Turkiye, General Metin Gurak to discussed topics of mutual interest and joint activities.
At the meeting with Admiral Giuseppe Cavo Dragone, General Gjurchinovski was awarded the highest military recognition of the Italian armed forces as a confirmation of the excellent bilateral cooperation and the contribution to the development of the alliance, especially for the joint participation with the Italian armed forces in the KFOR mission and in the contingent for enhanced Vigilance Activities in Bulgaria.
At the Military Committee 191st session, following the opening addresses of NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg and the Chair of the MC, Admiral Rob Bauer, the Supreme Allied Commander Transformation, General Philippe Lavigne and the Supreme Allied Commander Europe, General Christopher Cavoli, presented specific guidelines for the implementation of the plans in specific domains at two sessions.
The progress of the implementation of the Alliance Deterrence and Defence plans adopted at the preceding NATO summit was also reviewed. These discussions will be the basis for the preparation for the upcoming summit to be held in Washington this year.
At the session of the NATO-Ukraine Council, the aggression of Russia over Ukraine, the current situation on the ground and the continued support for Ukraine provided by NATO were discussed.
The conclusions of the Assembly were announced at the afternoon joint press conference of Admiral Bauer and General Cavoli. The Military Committee i.e. the Chiefs of Defence hold two regular meetings a year, and once a year they meet in one of the Allied Member States.
