The Logistics Base, the highest unit in the domain of logistics in the Army and the first subordinate command of the General Staff, marked the Day of the Unit with a military ceremony in the “Ilinden” barracks in Skopje.
At the ceremony, on the occasion of the day of the unit, the Chief of the General Staff, Lieutenant General Vasko Gjurchinovski, the Deputy Minister of Defense, Tiron Jajaga and the Commander of the Logistics Base, Colonel Muharem Muharemi addressed the attendants.
General Gjurchinovski, congratulating the Day of the Unit, expressed gratitude and recognition to the members of the unit for their achievments and told them to continue with the same level of intensity and profesionalism in performance of the assigned tasks.
The Deputy Minister, Jajaga emphasized that logistic support is one of the main pillars of the Army, actively contributing to every activity of the Army service members, inside and outside the borders of our country, as well as logistic support during the transit of the allied forces.
The Commander of the Logistics Base, Colonel Muharem Muharemi, in his address emphasized that in the past period the unit was actively dedicated to providing continuous and timely logistic support to the Army’s regular operations, support of the units that deployed to international operations and support to international exercises.
He stressed that the implementation of any military activity or operation would not be possible without presence of logistic support, adding that for smooth execution of the activities the logistics must adapt as well, to be quicker and more effective. “The quick and timely deployment of forces implies an effective and comprehensive logistic support, which is vital for successful fulfillment of operational capabilities and objectives of combat units” Muharemi pointed out in his address.
According to the military protocol and program, incentives measures to some of the units’ service members for the achieved results, and promotions to a higher rank were announced.
The today’s ceremony, besides the Chief of the General Staff, Lieutenant General Vasko Gjurchinovski and the Deputy Minister of Defense, Tiron Jajaga, was also attended by the Deputy Chief of the General Staff, Major General Azim Nuredin, the State Secretary in the Ministry of Defense, Vladimir Anchev, the Commander of the Operations Command, Brigadier General, Besnik Emini, active and retired army generals, representatives from the Ministry of Defense and General Staff, commanders of Army units, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and other institutions and organizations with which the logistics base cooperates.
The Day of the Logistic Base, 20 May has been designated as the day of the unit by the decision of the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Army in memory of the beginning of the first logistic preparations for the Razlovec Uprising in 1876.
During the entire period of Army existence the Logistics Base carries out planning, organizing and coordinating of logistic support to Army commands and units at a higher level in the functional areas: supply; maintenance and repair; movement and transport; medical and veterinary support and infrastructure and services.
Following the formation and structural changes of the Army, in the past the Logistics Base functioned as a service support base, i.e. Logistics Command, Logistics Support Command and Logistics Support Brigade.
