In the barracks “Jane Sandanski” – Shtip, the members of the 2nd Infantry Battalion (2nd InfBn) within the 1st Infantry Brigade (1st IBde) marked the Day of the Unit, September 17, with a military ceremony. On that day the 14th Macedonian Youth People’s Liberation Brigade (MYPLB) was formed in the village of Mitrashinci, Berovo.
On the occasion of marking the Day of the unit, delegations from the superior command, the unit and members of the families of the fallen members, laid fresh flowers in front of the “Macedonia” memorial at the entrance of the barracks.
The ceremony was attended by the Commander of the 1st InfBde, Brigadier General Sashko Lafchiski with representatives of the brigade command and staff, former commanders and members of the unit, representatives of the local self-government, heads of public institutions and other guests.
The Commander of the barracks “Jane Sandanski”, Lieutenant Colonel Zoran Sumrachki spoke in front of the formation, referring to the historical path of the “MYPLB” (14th Macedonian Youth People’s Liberation Brigade). “This period was filled with a lot of challenges in many fields that the unit successfully dealt with. I have to mention that the assessment of combat readiness in accordance with the high standards of assessment of NATO ground units is long behind us. The obtained grade “combat ready to carry out the mission” is a great achievement for which we are all proud, but before us, we already have the challenge of forming a Light Infantry Battalion Group LIBG whose core is exactly the 2nd InfBn, said Lieutenant Colonel Sumrachki.
In his address, the Commander of the 1st InfBde, Brigadier General Sashko Lafchiski said, “I congratulate you on the Day of the Unit and I acknowledge everything this unit has achieved in the past period in carrying out the tasks and missions outside of our country together with the other partners and members of NATO. On this occasion, I would like to emphasize the important role that the 2nd InfBn has in supporting the local and state institutions in the area of responsibility. The citizens of the Republic of Slovenia also saw their dedication and sacrifice, after the great floods in this country last month.”
On the occasion of the Day of the Unit, the Commander of the best platoon, Second Lieutenant Chedomir Nikolovski, received a cup and a flag for the best unit, incentive measures were also read, and the institutions with which the unit had successful cooperation in the process of carrying out the duties and tasks received certificates of appreciation.
At the end of the ceremony, the attendees had the opportunity to see some of the newly arrived JLTV vehicles, which are part of the modernization of the Army, and thus the modernization of the battalion.
