With a military ceremony in the barracks “Boro Menkov” in Kumanovo, members of the 1st Infantry Battalion (1st IBn) within the 1st Infantry Brigade (1st IBde) marked the day of their unit, February 26th. On this date in 1944 in the village of Zhegljane, Kumanovo region, the 3rd Macedonian National Liberation Brigade was formed.
The ceremony was attended by a delegation from the Operations Command (OC), a delegation from the Command and Staff of the 1st Infantry Brigade led by the Brigade Commander, Colonel Sashko Lafchiski, battalion commanders from the 1st Infantry Brigade and other guests.
The commander of the 1st IBde, Colonel Sashko Lafchiski, addressed the lined up soldiers and the present guests stating, among others things, that the Army members, as a part of NATO, are dedicated to their obligations in the Alliance. Major Cherimi Shpetim referred to the historical significance of February 26th, and the future responsibilities and tasks of the unit.
At the ceremony, certain officers, non-commissioned officers and professional soldiers were commended and awarded. As part of the celebration of the day of the unit, a blood donation was carried out. The Second Transport Platoon from the Logistics Support Company was proclaimed the best platoon. The next day a delegation from the battalion laid fresh flowers at the memorial plaque in the village Zhegljane.
