The Chief of the General Staff of the Army, Lieutenant General Vasko Gjurchinovski, who is on a multi-day working visit to the United States of America, yesterday, according to the agenda, paid a visit to the Pentagon, Washington, where he had several working meetings with senior military leaders of the US Command.
Lieutenant General Gjurchinovski, accompanied by Vermont National Guard Commander Major General Gregory Knight, first met with the Chief of U.S. National Guard Bureau, General Daniel Hokanson.
During the meeting it was discussed about the cooperation that the Army of the Republic of North Macedonia has with the Vermont National Guard, within the partnership Cooperation Program, which has great significance in the achieved interoperability level since our NATO membership, on the basis of which numerous joint activities have been carried out.
Lieutenant General Gjurchinovski continued his working visit to the Pentagon with a meeting with the Deputy Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the United States Armed Forces, Admiral, Christopher Grady. Lieutenant General Gjurcinovski presented the activities that the Army of the Republic of North Macedonia implements in the field of defense after our full integration into NATO, primarily in the process of transformation, equipping and modernization, joint activities with the US Air Force and the support provided by the strategic partnership with the United States.
In addition, Lieutenant General Gjurchinovski emphasized the benefits and experiences gained by our military members from the joint participation in peace support missions and international military exercises with the US Armed Forces.
The delegation also met with Deir Hirsch, the Director of the Directorate of Military Support for Civilian Institutions, as well as with heads of the Department for Strategies, Policies and Planning in the Joint Staff of Pentagon.
Today’s talks underlined the strong commitment to further joint development of our capabilities and interoperability in NATO, as well as the importance of NATO collective security for Southeast Europe and beyond, during the military aggression against Ukraine, which is condemned by all NATO member states and the EU.
During his stay at the Pentagon, Lieutenant General Gjurchinovski paid tribute to the victims of the 2001 Pentagon terrorist attack at the memorial center.
Over the next few days, the delegation, led by the Army Chief of Staff, will tour the National Crisis Management Command in Burlington, Vermont, the U.S. Air Force Material Command, the Oshkosh Company in Detroit and Fort Levenworth.
