The members of the Special Forces Battalion (SFBn) held an open day for the students of the Institute for Security, Defence and Peace within the Faculty of Philosophy of UKIM in Skopje, on November 10th in “Ilinden” barracks.
The students were welcomed by the Deputy Commander of the SFBn, Lieutenant Colonel Igor Jovanov, who gave an introductory speech and greeted all present at the event.
With a briefing about the unit, the students got acquainted with the history of the unit, the mission and the essential tasks, as well as the contribution from the participation in peace missions outside the country. They also attended presentations at which members of the SFBn presented weapons, equipment, conducting training and special skills.
During the open day, the students got acquainted with the weapons and special equipment of the army special forces, and had the opportunity to see the personal and collective armament, mountaineering, diving and other special equipment with which the unit operates.
They also witnessed the mountaineering skills of the Battalion members on the climbing tower, as well as demonstration of martial arts training and a methodical-demonstration exercise “direct action with command post assault”, by which the students had the opportunity to attend a real execution of a combat task using maneuver ammunition.
The interest of the students, as future strategic decision makers in the field of security and defence, was huge; many questions were asked and many of them expressed their desire to one day be a part of the Army and the Ministry of Defence.
