The Chief of the General Staff of the Army, Major General Sashko Lafchiski, held a meeting today with the new commander of NATO’s KFOR mission in Kosovo, Major General Özkan Ulutaş, who is paying his first official visit to the Army and the Ministry of Defense following his reappointment to this position.
The meeting focused on the ongoing activities within the KFOR mission and on further strengthening cooperation. General Ulutaş emphasized the importance of the continuous presence and contribution of the Macedonian peacekeepers as a significant part of the efforts to maintain stability and security in Kosovo.The current security situation in the region was also discussed, highlighting the importance of allied cooperation.
As part of the visit, Major General Ulutaş also met with the Minister of Defense, Vlado Misajlovski.
General Ulutaş is the first commander in the history of the KFOR mission to serve in this position for a second time, which stands as a confirmation of his professionalism. During his first mandate, General Ulutaş visited the Army and is well acquainted with the situation in the region.
The Army of the Republic of North Macedonia has participated in the KFOR mission since 2020, with two platoons deployed in Regional Command-West as part of the Italian Armed Forces contingent, and five staff officers assigned to the KFOR headquarters in Pristina.
