Resulting from the requirement for a large scale engagement in fire extinguishing operations, the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Gordana Siljanovska-Davkova has decided to engage further 200 Army members in the efforts to put out the raging fires.
The General Staff (GS) has issued an order, putting the military on stand by and engaging additional 200 Army members, 170 from the Operations Command and 30 from the Training and Doctrine Command, amounting to 300 engaged Army members.
Alongside the 100 members primarily engaged since a crisis situation was declared due to wildfires, additional forces will perform duties on locations according to the guidelines of the Crisis Management Centre, which is responsible for coordinating all entities involved.
In the course of the day, President Gordana Siljanovska-Davkova, accompanied by Deputy Chief of the General Staff, Major General Azim Nuredin, visited Army members involved in extinguishing the large forest fire on the mountain of Serta, in the vicinity of Village Kalanjevi near Negotino, where she was briefed on the current situation with the wildfires and on the activities undertaken to localize the same.
Engaged forces and resources operate in coordination with other involved entities, which proves as crucial in the efforts to combat fires and put them under control.
So far, the Army operates with 100 members and two Army helicopters MI-8/17, which are engaged on locations, instructed by the Crisis Management Centre, and by throwing more than 150 tons of water and actively operating on terrain, they contribute to the efforts to localize the fires. At the same time, members of the Air Force WING coordinate the helicopter flights from Turkiye, Serbia and Montenegro.
