The Chief of Army’s General Staff, Lieutenant General Vasko Gjurchinovski is in an official visit of Bosnia and Herzegovina and today in Sarajevo, he visited the Armed Forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
After the welcoming military ceremony, General Gjurchinovski met his host, the Chief of the Joint Staff, Lieutenant General Senad Mashovikj. Afterwards, the delegation of the Army of the Republic of North Macedonia had official talks with the military leadership of the Joint Staff.
At the meeting, Generals Gjurchinovski and Mashovikj talked about the opportunities of enriching the bilateral defense cooperation, as well as improving the cooperation in the area of military education at the training centers for peace support operations in Sarajevo and in the Public Affairs Regional Center in Skopje. General Mashovikj expressed his gratitude for the support of the cadets from Bosnia and Herzegovina who study at the Military Academy “General Mihailo Apostolski” in Skopje.
During all meetings, the traditionally good defense cooperation was confirmed stating the expectation for further support including sharing experience between the two armies.
Defence bilateral cooperation with the Armed Forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina is in the area of military education, joint participation in international military exercises, courses at the Public Affairs Regional Center, participation in the Balkan Medical Task Force, and joint participation in the regional defense initiatives A-5 and B-9.
During his three-day visit, General Gjurchinovski visited the training camp Butmir where he met the Commander of the EUFOR-ALTEA Mission, Major General Helmut Habermayer. Afterwards, he visited the Macedonian contingent, operating as part of the Turkish contingent, where he met the officer in charge of the Turkish contingent.
They talked about our contribution to the mission with one infantry platoon and a staff officer, which confirms our country’s firm commitment to contribute to the Common Security and Defense Policy of the European Union.
After the meeting, the delegation led by General Gjurchinovski, laid fresh flowers at the monument commemorating the Macedonian peacekeepers tragically killed in a helicopter crash in 2008.
