Army Chief of GS, Lieutenant General Vasko Gjurchinovski, who is in an official visit to the Hungarian Armed Forces, had a meeting today with the Chief of GS, Lieutenant General Ferenc Korom.
After the welcoming ceremony with high military honors, main topics discussed at the meeting held at the General Staff of the Hungarian Armed Forces were the opportunities for further and deeper military cooperation between the two armies as NATO allies, as well as the security challenges in the region, in particular, the migrant crisis and extreme radicalism.
General Gjurchinovski expressed his gratitude for yesterday’s ratification of the agreement for accession of North Macedonia to NATO by the Hungarian Assembly, also for continuous open support we receive from the Hungarian Armed Forces (AF). He emphasized that this visit to the Hungarian AF is important because it is happening now when we are on the brink of joining NATO, which allows an opportunity to expand mutual cooperation through sharing experiences for implementing NATO accession processes and procedures.
General Korom showed readiness for further support in sharing experiences of the reform processes in the army for more successful incorporation of the necessary NATO standards.
During their stay in Budapest the military delegation, led by General Gjurchinovski, will familiarize themselves, at the General Staff, with: the structural reform processes conducted by the Hungarian Armed Forces in their defence structure and in establishing Central European multinational command, as well as with the role of the military in crisis management of the migrant crisis.
This bilateral cooperation with Hungary in the area of defence officially began in October 2002, by signing the Memorandum of cooperation between the two Defence Ministries. In the past years this cooperation is seen in the area of expert talks and education in different fields, and also in joint exercises of the military Air Force.
