Today, November 13, the Day of the Engineer Battalion (EngrBn), within the 1st Infantry Brigade (1st InfBde), was marked with a military ceremony.
The Commander of the 1st Infantry Brigade, Brigadier General Sashko Lafchiski, in his speech, first greeted the guests present, and then spoke about the role of the unit from its establishment until today. He also emphasized that in the year when we mark the 31st anniversary of the formation of the Army and the 3rd anniversary of full membership in the NATO Alliance, the infantry, together with the other units of the 1st InfBde, continues to be a crucial fighting force and striking fist of the Army. He put a special emphasis on the equipping with modern and sophisticated equipment, in accordance with the NATO standards, as well as to the participation in the KFOR missions in R. Kosovo and ALTEA in R. Bosnia and Herzegovina, where together with our allies and partners the members of the battalion are a guarantee of security and peace in Europe. At the end of his address, the commander of the 1st InfBde emphasized that the EngrBn participated in the alignment and expansion of over 100 km of roads throughout the country, cleaning of riverbeds, breaking through impassable roads; the EngrBn also actively participated in the humanitarian operation in R. Slovenia, where it helped in the rehabilitation of the infrastructure affected by the floods.
The Deputy Commander of the EngrBn, Major Laste Gjorgjiev, pointed out that in celebrating the day of the Engineer unit, the feeling of respect and pride when addressing those present is great, because what has been achieved so far is also great. The lasting works of the Engineers speak for it, and all its members who work hard, dedicatedly and professionally deserve credit. At the same time, Major Gjorgjiev emphasized: “Today, when we mark the 79th anniversary of the establishment of the Engineer Brigade of the General Staff of the People’s Liberation Army and the partisan detachments of Macedonia, whose traditions are borne by the EngrBn, the execution of the mission was and remains the same – to defend and build our state, and to preserve its independence and freedom with all forces and means”.
The ceremony was attended by: Brigadier General Besnik Emini, Brigadier General Sashko Lafchiski, representatives from the Operations Command, representatives from the 1st InfBde, active and retired Army generals, units’ commanders and senior officers, and former commanders and members of the Engineer Regiment and the Engineer Battalion.
The ceremony ended with the reading of congratulations on the occasion of the Day of the Unit, orders for promotion and incentive measures for the achieved work results and raising the combat readiness. The ceremony was followed by a tactical-technical display of the machines and motor vehicles that the unit has.
Within the framework of the celebration of the EngrBn Day, members of the Battalion in cooperation with the Red Cross carried out a blood donation campaign on November 2 2023, in which they donated 25 units of blood.
