Today, 26 May, a ceremony was held in front of the memorial of the late Staff Sergeant Zoran Jovanov at the “Ilinden” barracks in Skopje, marking 22 years since his tragic death.
Staff Sergeant Zoran Jovanov was born on 13 February 1972 in Skopje. He was married and the father of one son, Adrian. Throughout his military career, he served exclusively in special operations units, first in the Yugoslav People’s Army (JNA) and later in the Macedonian Army. During his service, he worked as a paratrooper and later as a parachuting instructor within the special units “Wolves” and “Rangers.”
As a sign of respect for his service and sacrifice, representatives of the Operations Command, the Intelligence and Reconnaissance Battalion, the Special Forces Battalion, and other units stationed at the “Ilinden” barracks laid fresh flowers at the memorial. Flowers were also laid by his son Adrian, his brother Jove, relatives, and friends.
Staff Sergeant Zoran Jovanov lost his life on 23 May 2004 at the age of 32 at the “Konjari” sports airport near Prilep while performing his 298th parachute jump, which was also his final jump.
