The Signals Battalion (SBn) service personnel had an official military ceremony at the military barracks Ilinden, to celebrate the 21st of October – the Day of the Unit.
There were many guests at the ceremony including, the Commander of the Operations Command, Brigadier General Besnik Emini, representatives of the General Staff of the Army, the Operations Command, other commands and units, as well as former commanders of the Signals Regiment and Battalion. The ceremony was held respecting all the COVID-19 protocols and restrictive measure.
The Commander of the battalion, Lieutenant Colonel Ilija Dimchevski addressed the audience and said that the battalion is the successor of the transformed Signals Regiment and is in charge of providing communications and relevant support to the commands and units of the Army, including supporting state institutions in dealing with natural disasters and COVID –19 pandemic.
The Commander of the Operations Command, Brigadier General Besnik Emini, said that the Signals Battalion is essential part of the Operations Command because it plays very important role in building the military capabilities and capacities of the Army.
The Day of the Unit was celebrated through different activities, including, voluntary blood donation in cooperation with the City General Hospital “8th September” in Skopje, humanitarian action to donate food and hygiene products to families in need in cooperation with the municipality of Sopishte, planting trees in the region of village Budinarci, in cooperation with the municipality of Berovo, and sport games of football, basketball, table tennis and chess.
The Chief of General Staff of the Army, the Commander of the Operations Command and the Commander of the Signals Battalion presented incentive measures at the ceremony celebrating the Day of the Unit.
The Day of the Unit is celebrated on the day when, on 21st of October 1943, the Institution for Signals within the General Staff of the National Liberation Army was founded on the liberated territory of Debarca. At that time, during the antifascist and national liberation war, its role was to connect and maintain communications for the General Staff. Today, the Signals Battalion is responsible for connecting and maintaining communications for the Strategic and Operations Command of the Army.
