At the Army Training Area (ATA) “Krivolak” and the Water Training Camp in Ohrid, more than 220 members of the Belgian Armed Forces, deployed with about 40 vehicles, carried out training activities that represented not only a tactical challenge, but also a test of planning, logistics and command and control.
The activities of the 2nd Commando Battalion of the Belgian Special Operations Regiment (2Cdo), which began with individual training and improvement of skills such as marksmanship, reconnaissance and medical support, were later directed toward conducting tactical combat operations at platoon and company level.
The diverse and expansive terrain of the ATA “Krivolak” enabled the Belgian forces to practise large scale maneuver while using different weapons and combat systems.
At the same time, amphibious procedures, infiltration with light vessels and water-borne reconnaissance, were practised on Lake Ohrid. The ideal conditions provided by the lake enabled improvement of the techniques that are of crucial importance in modern operations, specifically, the simultaneous conduct of operations in two different domains – land and water.
During the Distinguished Visitors Day, held on 10 February at ATA “Krivolak”, a delegation of the Army, composed of the Director of the Army General Staff , Brigadier General Orce Jordev; the Commander of the Special Forces Battalion, Lieutenant Colonel Blagoj Naumov and the Commander of the Training Support Centre, Lieutenant Colonel Goran Kimov had the opportunity to observe the ongoing training activities of the members of the Belgian Army, while emphasizing the close cooperation between the two nations.
The Army delegation attended the activity at the invitation of the Belgian Defence Attache, Colonel David Lambeens, the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Belgium to our country, His Excellency Mr. Paul Lambert and the Commander of the Belgian Special Operations Regiment, Colonel Kristof Van Poecke.
