As part of a working visit to the United States Armed Forces, the Chief of the Army General Staff, Major General Sashko Lafchiski, met with the Vice Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the U.S. Armed Forces, General Christopher Mahoney yesterday (March 5).
During the meeting held at the Pentagon in Washington, the three-decade partnership and cooperation between the two armies were reaffirmed. On this occasion, General Lafchiski emphasized the Army’s firm commitment to regional and global security through the participation of Army members in peace support operations and NATO activities, highlighting Macedonian involvement in “Forward Land Forces” in the Republic of Bulgaria, Romania, and the Republic of Latvia.
Continuing the meeting, General Lafchiski informed General Mahoney about the largest modernization process in the Army’s history, including the procurement of newly acquired Stryker and JLTV light armored vehicles, modern howitzers, and other sophisticated weaponry and equipment. The upcoming exercise “Flash 26” was also highlighted as a top national priority, intended to evaluate the combat readiness of the Light Infantry Battalion Group.
The importance of the Army Training Area “Krivolak” was also emphasized as a strategic asset that enables large-scale training. The potential for the development of this range was discussed through infrastructure upgrades, modernization, and the provision of conditions to expand its training and exercise capabilities.
During the meeting, current global challenges and threats were also discussed, with a specific focus on the deteriorating security situation in the Middle East, the need for continuous adaptation of Army capabilities, and the strengthening of regional and international cooperation to address modern threats.
