The Commander of the US Federal State of Vermont National Guard, Major General Gregory Knight, met the Chief of the General Staff, Lieutenant General Vasko Gjurchinovski, as part of his several-day official visit to the Republic of North Macedonia, at the Army’s General Staff, today.
At the meeting, Generals Gjurchinovski and Knight discussed the activities during the past thirty-year partnership program with the Vermont National Guard through which we carried out a large number of activities with joint participation in peace support operations, a large number of joint exercises, training and education of the members of the two armies.
The Generals confirmed their commitment to further intensification of three-decade long cooperation, whose principles are contained in the document signed during General Gjurchinovski stay in the USA in June this year.
During the working meeting, which followed the meeting of the Generals, the current situation with the Army transformation process, the Army participation in peace operations, training and exercises, as well as the capacities of ATA “Krivolak” were presented to the delegation from Vermont.
As part of today’s visit to the Ministry of Defence and the General Staff, a meeting was held with the Defence Minister, Slavjanka Petrovska, followed by a statement for the media.
General Knight emphasized that within the framework of the 30-year partnership, long-lasting friendships were built and that these three decades are only the beginning of the cooperation.
During his visit, on Wednesday, General Knight will attend the US Adriatic Charter (A-5) Chiefs of Defence Conference. He will also meet with the heads of other institutions with which the Vermont NG cooperates, and on September 28 he will attend the ceremony on the occasion of the thirty-year partnership, held at the Ministry of Defence.
Previously, the delegation from Vermont visited the Water Training Camp in Ohrid, and in the following days will also visit the Engineer Battalion and the CBRN Company stationed in the “Chojlia” barracks, the Operations Command and the 1st Infantry Brigade.
