Today, the Chief of General Staff of the Army, Lieutenant General Vasko Gjurchinovski has made his first official visit to the Armed Forces of Greece at the Staff of the NATO Rapid Deployable Corps in Thessaloniki.
After the welcoming ceremony with high military honors at the NATO corps, Lieutenant General Gjurchinovski had a meeting with the Chief of the Helenic National Defence General Staff, General Christos Christodoulou, as well as with the Commander of the NATO corps, Lieutenant General Costantinos Kutras, after which the delegation had a working meeting with the key personnel of this Command.
At today’s meeting between the Generals Gjurchinovski and Christodoulou, the bilateral military cooperation has been discussed, which is important not just for the international relationship as recent NATO allies, but as well as for the security of the entire region.
They also discussed the further promotion and improvement of the existing bilateral military cooperation as future NATO allies in accordance with the defence cooperation agreement signed by the Ministries of Defence of both countries. In context of the agreement decisions, the Chiefs of the General Staffs have signed the technical arrangement for air space surveillance “Air Policing”.
During the meeting they also discussed the current and the future activities which the Army of Republic of North Macedonia implements in the process for full integration in the NATO structures.
The delegation led by Lieutenant General Gjurchinovski visited the 34th Mechanized Brigade of the Hellenic Armed Forces, where they have been acquainted with the activities, the mission and the tasks of the Brigade.
The military cooperation between the two armies so far has been mainly through the SEDM initiation, the South Eastern Europe Brigade, and also in the field of the military education of our members in the Greek high education institutions and Greek language studies.
