“The Ministry of Defence fully respects the commitments of the international community for increased participation of women in the creation and development of the security policy. The Republic of Macedonia has provided in continuity its significant contribution to the efforts for establishing the values of the 21st century in all societies on the global level and women, as part of the ARM contingents have demonstrated clear professionalism, skills and capabilities in the international peace missions” stated the Minister of Defence of the Republic of Macedonia, Talat Xhaferi, on today’s ceremony in the Army Home dedicated to the Woman’s Day, 8 March.
In addition, in his welcoming remarks Minister Xhaferi added that a Committee on gender perspectives and gender equality has been established within the MOD with the basic task to coordinate and monitor the activities that constitute the core and support in the development of equality, non-discrimination and perspectives of all people regardless of their gender.
On the occasion of this ceremony, the Chief of General Staff of the ARM, Major General Gorancho Koteski, added that “the representation of women in the ARM is within the European average and the fact that they are not only in logistics and in the services, but also in the combat compositions, is a reliable indicator of their capabilities to develop a professional military career“.
“It is impossible to build a more just and prosperous democratic society without an active involvement of the women’s population which is an inspiration for achieving high results”, underlined General Koteski.
In the Ministry of Defence, out of the total number of employees, 37.4% are women, while this percentage in the Army of the Republic of Macedonia is 8%.
