Chief of General Staff, Lieutenant General Vasko Gjurcinovski, today and tomorrow at NATO Headquarters in Brussels, participates in the 182nd session of the NATO Military Committee (MC), which is held in the format of Chiefs of Staff.
For the second time, General Gjurchinovski participates in all sessions of the NATO MC meetings, as the head of an army of invited country that will soon be a full-fledged member of the Alliance. This was also highlighted in the opening speech by MK Chairman, Air Chief Marshal, Sir Stuart Peach who welcomed the Chief of General Staff and the Republic of North Macedonia.
In his address to the participants in the session, General Gjurchinovski, in addition to expressing his gratitude for the full support of NATO’s highest military advisory body, emphasized the Army’s commitment to carry out all activities in preparation for full membership in the NATO Alliance.
At the beginning of the session, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg outlines the political context of Alliance action as the basis for further discussions. During other sessions of the two-day session of the MC Chiefs will discuss current NATO operational commitments, and further activities. Separate sessions will also focus on NATO’s involvement in the Decisive Support Mission in Afghanistan, the NATO mission in Iraq and the KFOR mission.
During the session, General Gjurchinovski held several meetings and exchanges of views with NATO Heads of State and Partner Nations, discussing several security-related topics of mutual interest and cooperation, including issues about current situation in the Middle East.
At a session related to participating in the “Decisive Support” mission in Afghanistan, in which about fifty of our members perform various tasks in several commands, the latest strategic and operational information related to the security situation in Afghanistan is presented.
Support for full membership as the 30th member of the Alliance, as well as our full commitment to achieving this strategic goal, were highlighted during the first visit of the Chairman of the NATO Military Committee, Airforce Marshal Sir Stuart Peach, who visited Republic of North Macedonia last week.
