Traditionally, ahead of March 8th, International Women’s Day, at the General Staff, a brief overview was made of the ongoing commitment to improving gender equality in the military structures.
On the occasion of Women’s Day, at a meeting with the Army Deputy Chief of General Staff, Major General Azim Nuredin representatives of the Army commands and units referred to the activities that promote and develop the principles of equal opportunities for female and male, gender perspective, as well as the current female presence in the Army.
General Nuredin congratulated all female personnel of the Army, acknowledging their commitment and professionalism in carrying out their tasks.
He referred to the implementation of the gender equality in the Ministry of Defense and the Army, in accordance with 1325 UN resolution emphasizing the improvement of the percentage of female personnel in the Army, which currently stands at 10.14% of the total number of army personnel. He also referred to the need to follow the trends of modern armies in the world to increase that percentage, as well as bigger presence of female personnel in performance of senior command duties.
Of the total personnel in the Army of the Republic of North Macedonia, 10.14% are female, of which 16.58% are officers, 10.93% non-commissioned officers, 5.56% professional soldiers, and 33.82% are civilian female in the Army. The trend of improving the presence of female personnel in the structure of the Army continues, especially among the officers ranks, thus there are 4 females with the highest rank of colonel, 33 lieutenan-colonels, and the number of majors, captains and lieutenants is satisfying.
