In the period from 11 to 15 September, at the invitation of the Head of Future Force Development, Directorate Future Brigadier General Mike Cornwell and Senior Defense Adviser, retired Air Vice Marshal, Gary Waterfall a delegation of the Army of the Republic of North Macedonia led by the Deputy Chief of Army’s General Staff, Major General Azim Nuredin participated in the International Conference on Concepts 2023 in London, United Kingdom held on 11 September; and at the Defence and Security Equipment International Fair, from 12 to 15 September, also in London.
The aim of the conference was to share ideas on the new operational concept of the British Ground Forces and to actively promote discussion among Allies and partners about the future operational environment and its impact on Army Forces.
Besides presenting the British Army concept, the conference participants also gave presentations at the International Conference on Concepts 2023 (ICC23). On the sidelines of the conference, a panel discussion hosted by the International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS) was held, with participants from leading academic institutions. The panel covered potential challenges and technologies that will affect the warfare, the operational environment and the capabilities of ground forces.
At the Defence and Security Equipment International Fair (DSEI) 2023, the world’s largest fully integrated hybrid exhibition of arms and equipment for defense and security, the Army delegation had the opportunity to see the latest equipment, systems and innovative technology relating to land, naval, air, cyber and space operational environments. The exhibition center was organized with exhibition stands of many leading international defense exhibitors accompanied by over 500 small and medium-sized enterprises, which play a vital role in innovation and diversity in the defense supply chain. Under the motto of this year’s DSEI 2023 fair “Achieving an Integrated Force”, the exhibition was complemented by a program of seminars and speakers from the UK Ministry of Defense and international military partners based on the strategic vision of the UK and other nations for the capabilities that future ground forces should have, while offering ideas and challenges focused in the field of this domain.
At the fair, the Deputy Chief of the Army’s General Staff and the members of the delegation visited several companies, with a focus on the ones whose production portfolio includes armaments and equipment in the field of reconnaissance and intelligence, needed for the LIBG.
During his visit to the fair, the Deputy Chief of Army’s General Staff, Major General Azim Nuredin, accompanied by Colonel Nenad Miklos, had a meeting with the Deputy Chief of the Defence of the British Army, General Gwyn Jenkis. At the meeting they discussed the bilateral cooperation so far, as well as the current topics in the field of building capabilities needed for LIBG. At the end of the meeting, the British general expressed his readiness to share experiences in the field of combating drones, based on the lessons learned and as a result of the current war in Ukraine.
