This is the first time the Chief of General Staff of our Army to attend NATO Military Committee in Chiefs of Defense Session during all sessions. Until our country becomes a full NATO member country it will participate as invited member country. Previous Chiefs of General Staff of our country attended only sessions for partner countries and sessions concerning the participation to the Resolute Support mission in Afghanistan.
The Chairman of the NATO Military Committee Air Chief Marshal Sir Stuart Peach opened the conference. On the first session the Chiefs of Defense met the NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg in order to be informed of the key strategic issues facing the Alliance.
At the NATO Military Committee in Chiefs of Defense Session it was discussed about further direction and guidance on the Alliance. The Chiefs of Defense advice and guidance will assist and further frame discussions ahead of the June Defence Ministerial.
The participation of the Chief of General Staff of our Army during all sessions of the NATO Military Committee in Chiefs of Defense Session is very important because it is the first time that our country sits with 29 NATO member countries and participates in the discussions about world security issues.
Last year, NATO Military Committee Permanent Session was held in Skopje in order to demonstrate NATO’s strong and continued support towards the Republic of North Macedonia and its significant progress of NATO accession as a full member country.
