By laying fresh flowers in front of the memorial in Vratnica, a delegation of the Army, led by the Chief of the General Staff, Major General Sashko Lafchiski, paid tribute to the crew of the American bomber B-24 “Our Love”, which crashed in the locality of Kamche on August 26, 1944, during the Second World War.
The President of the Organization of Reserve Officers, Dr. Goce Georgiev, and the Deputy Ambassador of the USA to the Republic of North Macedonia, Mrs. Nicole Varnes, who expressed gratitude for the support for the organization of the event, as an important moment for the American public and tribute to the crew of the American B-24 bomber, addressed the attendees with welcoming speeches.
After the crash of the American military aircraft on August 26, 1944, the residents of Vratnica found the nine members of the crew in the village of Kamche, of whom three were injured and six died. The survivors were taken care of in Vratnica, where they were given first aid, then they were captured and taken to Sofia, Bulgaria, and after the end of the war they returned to the United States.
On the occasion of the anniversary, 80 years since the crash of the American bomber B-24, the memorial room for the crew was opened, during which the president of the Organization of Reserve Officers, Dr. Goce Georgiev, awarded a plaque to The Deputy Ambassador of the USA, Mrs. Nicole Varnes, and a badge to the Chief of the General Staff, Major General Sashko Lafchiski.
The event ended with the performance of a cultural and artistic program by the CDT “Kiril Pejchinovikj” from Tearce.
