A delegation of the Army of the Republic of North Macedonia, led by the Chief of the General Staff, Major General Sashko Lafchiski, participated at the ceremony marking May 9- Victory Day over Fascism and Europe Day.
By laying a wreath of fresh flowers at the Partisan Cemetery Memorial in Butel in Skopje, the Army delegation expressed its clear commitment to preserving the anti-fascist past, its respect for the Macedonian fighters who gave their lives for the homeland in the National Liberation War, and its clear and firm commitment to the country’s European future.
The celebration was also attended by delegations from the Government of the Republic of North Macedonia, including the Minister of Defense Vlado Misajlovski, the Minister of Environment and Spatial Planning Izet Mexhiti, the Minister of Justice Igor Filkov. Delegations from the Cabinet of the President and the Commander-in-Chief of the Army, the Parliament, the Association of National Liberation Anti-Fascist War Veterans, the diplomatic corps and other organizations also paid tribute.
May 9 is a symbolic date that marks the end of the World War II, when the unconditional surrender of Nazi Germany was signed in 1945. At the same time, this day is also a reminder of the vision of united Europe, presented through the Declaration of the French Foreign Minister Robert Schuman in 1950, which marked the beginning of the process of creating the European Union.
