Mission and Tasks of J-2/GS

J-2 Mission

Planning, analyzing, processing and dissemination of intelligence data in order to protect the territorial integrity, independence and the broader interests of the Republic of Macedonia in accordance with the Constitution, Law on defence and the national security and defence concept of the Republic of Macedonia;
Planning, analyzing, processing and dissemination of intelligence data required to participate in peace support and NATO-led conflict prevention operations;
Intelligence support of humanitarian operations and peace support operations in dealing with natural disasters and humanitarian crises.

J-2 Tasks

MILITARY INTELLIGENCE:

Plans, organizes and conducts intelligence support required for the decision making process of the GS of ARM during ARM participation in various operations in Macedonia and abroad;
Manages Intelligence data to suit the needs of the GS of ARM in preparation, plans and executes various operations;
Plans, coordinates and synchronizes intelligence operations in subordinate commands and units;
Plans, organizes and conducts Intelligence preparation of the battle field (IPB) for military and operations other than war in Macedonia and abroad.

COUNTERINTELLIGENCE:

Plans, organizes and implements CI measures in ARM;
Detects hostile intelligence capacities for data collection;
Recognizes hostile intelligence capabilities to interfere in hostile influence;
Provides CI operations for force protection.

SECURITY:

Recognizes critical physical security points;
Coordinates and conducts security examination and control.

STAFF PLANNING:

Plans and decision making process support;
Supports the planning process and maintains functional connections with MSSI(Military Sector for Security and Intelligence) in order to provide relevant intelligence data and analysis;
Supports the duties and responsibilities in the GS scope of work aimed at supporting the mission;
Responsible for planning and execution of intelligence exercises security;
Trains subordinates.

Chief of J-2/GS

Colonel Zlatko Stanoeski

Colonel Zlatko Stanoeski was born in 1977 in Skopje. He finished primary and secondary education in Skopje, and graduated from the Military Academy “General Mihailo Apostolski” in Skopje in 1999 as a Second Lieutenant in the Artillery. He completed the Land Forces Command Staff College in Thessaloniki, Greece, in 2016.

He has served in the Army since 27 July, 1999, and has held the following command and staff positions:

Platoon Commander of an Artillery Battery
Deputy Commander of an Artillery Battery
Commander of an Artillery Battery
Intelligence Officer in S-2 section of the 1^st Mechanized Infantry Battalion/Brigade
Exercise Officer in the Intelligence Department in G-2 (Intelligence, Counterintelligence and Security) of the Army General Staff (GS)
Chief of the A-2 Section in the Air Brigade
Chief of the Intelligence Department in the J-2 Section/ Operations Command (OC)
Chief of Section in J-2/OC

During his military career he has attended numerous courses, seminars and schools in the country and abroad, including: Artillery Battery Commander Course in Germany; Battalion Commander Course in Germany; PSYOPS – Psychological Operations Course in Brunssum, The Netherlands; NATO C- IED Battle Staff Officer Course in Bydgoszcz, Poland; ISTAR in Peace Support Operations; Course for Unmanned Aircraft System – RAVEN; Arms Verification Course in Germany; Intelligence in Stability Operations, Terrorist Recruitment Prevention Course COE-DAT in Ankara, Turkiye; Course for Authorized Officials; English Language Refresher Course; Land Forces Command and Staff College in Thessaloniki, Greece; Seminar on Intelligence Security Systems and Challenges of Modern Intelligence; “Senior Officers Strategic Studies Course” (SOSSC) DL; Operations Planning Course “Export Joint Operations Planning Course” (EJOPC). He has participated in numerous military exercises in the country and abroad.

Peace Operations Abroad:

Operational Mentoring and Liaison Team (OMLT) mentor to the S-2 Intelligence Section of the 2^nd Brigade in the 209th Corps of the Afghanistan National Army in Kunduz, Afghanistan, July, 2009 – January, 2010;
S-2 advisor in the advisory team to the Command of the 209th Corps of the Afghanistan National Army and, at the same time serving as the senior representative of the group (NPOC – National Point of Contact for RC – NORTH).
