Mission
Performs expert works needed for the preparation of analysis by providing advice and proposals in the NATO and EU domain, which are in favor of the military-political decisions making process, by the CHOD, DCHOD and Director of the General Staff of the Army. At the same time, it coordinates with NATO military missions (Brussels, Mons and Norfolk).
Tasks
- Participates in the preparation of the proposal of the organization and formation of the Army;
- Coordinate and follows the work of military missions in Brussels, Mons and Norfolk and other NATO and EU structures;
- Coordinates and organizes cooperation with other institutions in the Republic of North Macedonia in the NATO and EU context;
- Gives expert support to organizational units of the Army and if necessary co-organize activities in the domain of NATO and EU;
- Participates in planning, preparation and analysis in the field of cooperation with NATO and the EU;
- Prepares expert analysis from the NATO and EU domain;
- Provides appropriate and comprehensive advice and suggestions in support of the military-political decisions making process, by the CHOD, DCHOD and Director of the General Staff of the Army;
- Holds an insight into the incoming NATO and EU documents (written and electronic) by fields and categories and prepares suggestions for their distribution;
- Collects and updates data and submits appropriate reports;
- Prepares briefings and projects in the NATO and EU domain;
- Plans, organizes and holds NATO and EU conferences, where the CHOD, DCHOD and Director of the General Staff of the Army are directly involved.
Lieutenant Colonel Jovan Azmanovski
Lieutenant Colonel Jovan Azmanovski was born in 1981 in Skopje. After graduating from the “General Mihailo Apostolski” Military Academy in 2004, he started his military career as an aviation officer at the Skopje garrison, serving as a pilot in the Army’s aviation units. During his military career, he held command and staff positions at tactical, operational, and strategic levels. Since August 2026, he has been appointed as the Head of the NATO and EU Department at the Army General Staff.
In his military career so far, he has completed several courses and seminars in various fields both in the country and abroad, and he has also participated in operations as part of a series of exercises to assess the declared units of the Army, as well as international exercises organized in the country and abroad. From 2016 to 2017, he was sent for advanced helicopter training in Montenegro.
To enhance his education, he completed postgraduate studies at the Faculty of Human Resources from 2015 to 2018. He has participated in an international course for staff officers in peace support operations, as well as several aviation courses, including advanced training on the Gazelle helicopter, an instrumental flight course, a flight safety course, and an accident prevention course. During his military career, he has received several awards and decorations, the most notable being: the Silver and Bronze Badge from the Chief of Staff of the Army, a Commendation, and a reward leave from the Minister of Defense and the Chief of Staff of the Army. He actively uses the English language. Married, father of one child.

2020-2025 Aviation branch development officer in the Army General Staff;
2025-2026 Officer for monitoring NATO and EU transformation, concepts, doctrine, and lessons learned in the Army General Staff;
2026 – Head of NATO and EU department in the Army General Staff.
