Mission
The Sergeant Major of the Army is responsible for structuring and operating the NCO Corps of the Army, as well as for advising and assisting the Army’s Chief of the General Staff on matters within the scope of the NCO Corps.
Tasks
Gives advice and proposals to the Chief of the General Staff on matters that are within the scope of work of the NCO Corps;
Implements the established policies and standards in the training, appearance, implementation and performance of the Enlisted personnel’ activities;
Directs the professional development of Non-Commissioned Officers and Enlisted in the Army through the channel for support of non-commissioned officers;
Monitors, coordinates, and directs the individual training, and education of Non-Commissioned Officers and Enlisted;
Implements the Non-Commissioned Officers Development Concept and monitors its implementation;
Participates in the implementation of the Command Team Concept in the Army;
Participates in personnel management of Non-commissioned Officers and Enlisted;
He is in charge of communicating with and advising Non-Commissioned Officers and Enlisted.

Command Sergeant Major Goran Kjirkovikj
Command Sergeant Major Goran Kjirkovikj performed all leadership positions in the border units of the Army and the Honor Guard Battalion, starting from a professional soldier to a Command Sergeant Major of the battalion.
Command Sergeant Major Kjirkovikj was born in Skopje in 1974. He began his professional career in the Army as a professional soldier in October 1994. He attended basic training and advanced individual training in the infantry branch at the Training and Doctrine Command in Veles. Kjirkovikj had one deployment in Afghanistan, Operation “Resolute Support.” He worked as a professional soldier, platoon commander, and deputy watchtower commander in the border units of the Army from October 1, 1994, to November 1, 2003, at the watchtower Chashka and Rogachevo, 9th Border Battalion and the watchtower Konjari-Debar, 1st Border battalion, 1st Border Brigade until his reassignment to the Honor Guard Battalion. In the Honor Guard Battalion, CSM Kjirkovikj worked in every command position from platoon commander to Command Sergeant Major of the battalion.
The military education of Command Sergeant Major Kjirkovikj includes all levels of the non-commissioned officer education system. He completed the Basic NCO Course (MPRI Pilot), Advanced NCO Course (including the course for first sergeant), and additional courses with JMTT (Joint Military Training Team) within NATO. His awards and decorations include the Army Small Plaque, Army Gold Badge, Army Silver Badge, Silver Badge for Long Service, Letter of Gratitude from the President of the Republic of Macedonia, commendations and letters of gratitude from the Chief of the General Staff of the Army and the Minister of Defense.
He actively uses English, Serbian, and Croatian languages. Command Sergeant Major Kjirkovikj is married and has one son.
