DECISIVE SUPPORT – MISSION FOR TRAINING, CONSULTING AND ASSISTANCE TO THE AFGHAN SECURITY FORCES AND INSTITUTIONS
In the transition period that ended in December 2014, ISAF forces transformed their combat role into a central role for training, advising and assisting Afghan forces, followed by a new “Resolute Support” mission, responsible for continuing training, supporting and assisting Afghan security forces and institutions. It was activated on 1.1.2015.
Our members have so far contributed to this mission in cooperation with the forces of the United States, the Republic of Turkey, the Federal Republic of Germany, as well as within the regional contribution in A5 format, as follows:
- Security Unit of the Resolute Support Mission Command (in Kabul);
- Staff at the Resolute Support Mission Command (in Kabul);
- Staff in cooperation with the forces of the Republic of Turkey in the Command for training, counselling and assistance – Capital (in Kabul);
- Staff and advisers in cooperation with the forces of the Federal Republic of Germany in the Command for Training, Counselling and Assistance – North (in Mazar and Sharif), and staff within the joint US-Adriatic Charter contingent;
- Medical team within the field hospital with Role 2 within the peace contingent of the Kingdom of Norway.
We started our contribution to this peacekeeping mission at the end of December 2014 with 38 military personnel, in cooperation with the US and Turkish forces, as follows: 20 members as part of providing security of the mission command, (US) task that was previously carried out by members of the Army of the Republic of Macedonia, within the ISAF mission in Kabul, and 13 staff officers, including the Deputy Commander of the Capital Command, Kabul (Republic of Turkey).
Later to the composition of the mission members of the Army joined staff personnel in the Command for Training, Counselling and Assistance – North with 6 members, so that the total number of participants reached 38 members of the Army of the Republic of Macedonia. Since the beginning of 2018, with the decision made by the Ministry of Defence and voted by the Assembly, a 20 percent increase in the participation of ARM members in the peacekeeping mission “Resolute Support” the total number of members who were included in the security platoon and staff elders in RK GG and RKS reached 49.
In the period that followed, in accordance with NATO decisions and the needs of the mission command, the number varied until a decision was made to reduce and gradually withdraw the participants in the mission, so that the staff was gradually reduced, as well as the number of security platoon members, with a total of 20 participants.
In the current 2021 a surgical team was included consisting of 6 medics within the field hospital with Role 2 within the peace contingent of the Kingdom of Norway.
NATO allied forces began withdrawing from Afghanistan on May 1. This is the decision of the meeting of NATO Ministers of Defence and Foreign Affairs in April 2021, which was attended by Ministers Bujar Osmani and Radmila Sekerinska. The entire mission staff came back in June 2021.
